Notable Structures (English for Architects)
The aim of this elective is for students to learn about buildings and other structures in English, especially through Reading, Speaking and Writing. They will add to their general/cultural knowledge by becoming familiar with a wide range of buildings which have significance through their:
Aesthetic value;
Symbolic value (historical / national / religious);
Environmental value.
Students will learn language, including vocabulary, useful for reading, and writing/speaking about buildings in English, through the lenses of:
Design and functionality;
Construction.
Assessment
Final Assessment 100%
Students will demonstrate learning by means of a single assessment, in which students will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of relevant vocabulary
- Show they can recognize famous structures worldwide
- Write a paragraph in which they analyse the significance of a particular structure.
