English for Chemistry

 

The aim of this elective is for students, by remembering basic chemistry they learned at school, to learn how to understand and make descriptions of chemical concepts in English. Students will study some specialist chemistry vocabulary as well as words which are more generally useful in descriptions of science and technology.

They will do this through the lenses of the following topics:

  • Working scientifically in chemistry
  • The nature of matter
  • Classifying substances
  • Chemical reactions
  • Acids, bases and salts
  • Organic chemistry
  • Nanotechnology

 

Assessment

100%   One final exam on knowledge from the course of English used to describe chemistry.
