English for Art & Design
English for Art & Design is designed to be useful for any student who is interested in learning more about the creative world of art and design in English.
The first aim of English for Art & Design is for students to become familiar with some famous examples of art and design in the world. The second aim is for students to learn fundamental vocabulary about how people create, and how we talk about other people’s creations. The course builds on the knowledge that everybody has about very basic elements such as line, space, colour, shape and combines them with principles of design and composition. Students will learn specific words to understand descriptions of how designers work, as well as about important vocabulary for architects. At the end of this course, students will be well-placed to begin the study of Architecture at the Faculty level, in English.
Assessment: 100% Final Examination
In the examination, students will demonstrate understanding of basic concepts and knowledge of key vocabulary in English which they will have learned by careful week-by-week, and day-by-day, study. To have a realistic chance of passing this course, students will need to preview and review each successive lesson in good time.
